Google acquires Jotspot
Published October 31st, 2006 in Google. As a user of Jotspot, a great personal wiki site, I got an email today from Jotspot that they have been aquired by Google. This news has put to rest an old rumor about Yahoo! acquiring the company.
What remains to be seen is how Google integrates it into its online suite of document applications. Jotspot was certainly a competitor to Google docs. Now, will Google Docs gobble it up just like it did Writely? Or will Jotspot maintain its identity like YouTube did, at least thus far.
Whatever the case, everyone involved seems to be a winner. Google did away with a competitor, Jotspot guys must have walked away with a bunch of dough, and the users are going to get for free what they were used to paying for. Moreover, getting aquired by Google is no less than an ultimate award for most startups.
