Just saw that video and i was horrified by the adjectives used by the journalist. It seems to be the trend these days – the media going all out to pronounce judgment before the law does.

The levels of reporting have fallen to appalling levels, and there is definitely a bias in the media. Its a sad state of affairs really.

Validity of Varun’s alibi is not the only unanswered question. There are so many more, which do not apply to the Sukhram or Vaiko case. Just go through the seven I have listed. Before looking for the validity of the alibi, we have to look at the soundness of the allegation. Is it possible someone had an interest in producing a doctored CD? Yes. Is it possible to produce such a doctored CD? Yes. So, let us first rule out that is a possibility. My questions are not based on his denials, but on what I see are the credentials of the videos.

If you tell Vaiko that he will put in Jail under POTA he will immediately say that he didn’t say a word about “bloodshed” or supporting LTTE…Varun is a naive young politician and he never could have though of NSA being put on him. Its natural he says he didn’t utter those words.

Varun’s denials did not come after he was threatened of NSA or after EC ruled against him. His denials came right off the bat, as soon as the CD was made public. If he was naive enough to make those statements, and naive enough not to think he will be jailed, then at that time he would have been naive enough to own up to those statements. On the other hand, I think Vaiko’s statements make complete sense, seem to be reported by news media directly, not from a CD made by somone else, so many days later.

But look at all the cloaked statements he and Meneka gave after that, they never said what he “actually said”,

I don’t think that is correct. In each of his interviews before going to jail (watch the videos linked in Question-3 of my post) he is explaining what he said and what he did not. Everybody knows what BJP’s agenda is. So, it is expected that they will make pro-Hindu statements. It is a right wing party. But there is a line not to cross, and I don’t believe I have enough proof to think he crossed it. However, BJP has got its strength not from its pro-Hindu or anti-Muslim policies, but from the pseudo-secular policies of others, which BJP’s support base abhors.

Maneka in fact went ahead and blamed a Muslim Police officer adding strength to the agenda they have.

And why is that impossible? It is a claim as valid as any. Are the police forces not communalized? Of course, as you say, they would deny it. And with the whole establishment and media on their side, nobody will even look at those allegations.

The problem is that we are basing our views of the episode on our political biases instead of actual facts in the case. If I am anti-BJP I think Varun Gandhi is guilty, if I am pro-BJP I think he is not. Even though I have a pro-BJP bias, I have tried to keep my questions neutral in my post. So, let us try to ask ourselves those questions keeping our biases aside.
